S.L.C feedback

I enjoyed listening to your stories and poems and seeing where you are at with your maths, we didn't quite have enough time but you can show me some things at home, you spoke very well and were very organised. But if we'd had more time maybe you could have slowed down your speech.
Thank you Ju.

A letter to Gandalf

24th July

Dear Gandalf
My name is Juliette Phillipson, I go to Fendalton school in Christchurch and some of the people in my class are reading “The Hobbit” and we have decided to ask the characters some questions.
How did you become such a fantastic wizard? And if you really are as great as they say, why couldn’t you save Thorin or kill the dragon or just take the treasure with magic?
Now that I’ve finished the book I know why they call you such a great wizard but why didn’t you continue with them through the forest? What if something happened? You were my favourite character in the story although I did quite like the dwarves, which of them was your favourite? Mine was probably Balin because he was really nice to Bilbo. How did you know that Bilbo would be able to help? And why did you chose him out of all the wizards, dwarves, elves and hobbits in middle earth?
If you can, please write back and answer my questions.
Yours faithfully,
Juliette

A strange way to cook.

Hobo Stoves? It sounds strange I know but it was incredibly awesome.

It all started at camp, I was dripping wet from the water games and we were making pancakes outside, on a rusty burnt tin can. I know it sounds a little crazy but it’s not.

To make a hobo stove you need a really big tin can and a small tin can (like a salmon tin) the small tin can should have cardboard and wax in it. You light the cardboard and wax and put the big can on top of the small one. The big can should have a hole cut in the side so that the air can get in. Once the big can has heated up it’s time to make pancakes.

Group A (our group) was the last group to make hobo stoves. Amelia, You Bin and I were sharing a hobo stove and I got to make the first pancake.

First I had to put the oil on and spread it around. Then I poured on the pancake mix, then it was time to flip it but that didn’t go too well, first the pancake stuck to the tin then I flipped it but it wasn’t quite ready. It all joined together into a very abnormal shaped pancake.

Next came Amelia’s turn. Her pancake mucked up a bit because she put and extremely large amount of oil on the hobo stove and it was disgusting. It was mushy and soft and Amelia didn’t want it so she offered it to everyone. The only one who wanted it was Sam N and even he didn’t want it when he found out that it was covered in oil.

After that all of our pancakes were okay, apart from the disgusting one Amelia accidentally dropped on the dirt and gravel (we decided to give that one to the birds). The other strange pancake was my massive pancake that was so big that the mixture dripped over the edge of the hobo stove.

In the end they tasted great. The hobo stoves activity was one of my major highlights at camp.

Term 3 goals, hockey practise.

My last goal is to practise hockey every week with my dad. I will achieve this by asking him to help me every time I have finished. I will know I have achieved it when my team is winning more! I will try and and achieve this by the end of the year.

I don't think that I achieved this goal because I only practised with my dad twice because he is always at work. Next time I would keep practising even if my dad wasn't there.

Term 3 goals, guitar practise.

My second goal is to practise guitar for 10 minutes every day. I will achieve this by setting an alarm for five thirty every day. I will know I have achieved it when I am a lot better at guitar. I will be good at playing three songs (“The Flintstones”, “Chasing Cars” and "The Simpson's"). I will try and and achieve this goal by the end of this term.

I think I partly achieved this goal because I learnt the songs I was meant to but I didn't practise everyday. Next time I would put a reminder in my bedroom so that I remember.

My term 3 Goals, organisation

My first goal is to get more organised. I will achieve this by keeping my room and desk tidy, writing neatly and handing in my homework. I will know I have achieved it when it is easier to find things and my mum doesn’t tell me off for my room being messy. I will try and achieve this goal by the end of the year.

I think I achieved this goal because I have been able to find things in my desk easier, my bedroom is really tidy (even my mum says so) but I have only handed in my homework some of the time.
I have changed my mind about writing neatly because I don't think it really matters as long as its readable.

Next time I would hand in my homework more often and check that my room and my desk were tidy before I go.

My camp goals, tidy bunkroom.

My camp goals

To keep my bunkroom tidy.

I met my goal because:

The bunkroom all worked together and I kept my stuff in one place

Camp goals, getting nervous.

My camp goals

To try not to get to nervous

I met my goal Because:

I am normally nervous about getting to sleep but Elsie was in my room and she gets nervous too so we could talk if we had trouble sleeping

Camp goals, bedtime noise.

My camp goals:

To be less noisy at bedtime

Next time I would:

Try to talk for a shorter time but we talked quietly so I partly achieved this goal

My term 1 goals, getting fit.

My school and personal goal:

To get fitter

I will know I have achieved this goal when:

I don't get the stitch as much and when I don't get puffed as easily

I don't think I achieved this goal very well but I did get a bit fitter.
Next time I would:
Try a bit harder and push myself a bit more.

My term 1 goals, organisation.

My school goal:

To get better at my organisation

I will know I have achieved this goal when:

I can find things in my desk easier and when I can get to the mat faster.

I think I achieved this goal because I got to the mat faster and I could find things in my desk easier.

My term 1 goals, helping at home.

My personal goal:

To keep my room tidy at home

I will know I have achieved this goal when:

Mum doesn't have to clean it up for me

I partly acieved this goal because I kept it tidy most of the time but it got messy again when I had friends over.
Next time I would:
Get my friends to help me by putting things away when we are sure we have finished with them.

My term 2 goals, linking

School:
➢ My goal is to start linking more. I will achieve this by getting a friend to help remind me to link. I will achieve this by the end of this term I will know I have achieved it because I will compare my work from the start of the term to my work from the end of this term.

I didn't achieve this goal because I forgot to link and when I am trying to write fast I can't link.
Next time I would:
Try a bit harder and get my other work finished so I can write slower.

My term 2 goals, organisation

School:
➢ To be more organised by keeping my desk tidy. I will achieve this by the end of this term. I will achieve this by getting my learning buddy to check my desk every week. I will know I have achieved this when I can find things in my desk easily.

I partly achieved this goal becaus my desk was quite tidy but my learning buddy didn't check every week so it got messy again.
Next time I would:
Stick to what I said and say something that I know will happen if I try.

My term 2 goals, helping at home

Personal:
➢ Helping around the house by doing extra jobs and cleaning my room I will achieve this by asking to do extra jobs and cleaning my room every night before I go to bed. I will know I have achieved this when I am doing more jobs and when mum doesn’t have to tell me to clean my room.

My term 2 goals.
