Inquiry Evaluation

For my inquiry we made a movie. It was a news show and the special guest was a scientiist and the whole news was based on global warming. I think that the movie was good because it had lots of information in it about global warming and we hope people get the message and tell others so that we can help stop global warming, but it had some funny stuff aswell like when a fake scientist comes in and he is actually a meantal hospital patient, we needed to put stuff like this in so that people don't get bored. Next time I would make it shorter because people are going to get bored after a while, I would also make it a wee bit less funny because it got too silly.

Ju's Goals. term 4.

My goal first goal is to hand in all my work at school and to make sure that it is completed, I especially need to hand in my homelearning. I will achieve this goal by doing as much homelearning or as much of any type of work I have every night and putting it in my backpack as soon as I have finished. I will know I have achieved it when I can hand my work in with everyone elses at school. I will achieve this by the end of the term.

Goals, Term 4.

My second goal is to do more excercise after school and in the weekends. I will acieve this goal by doing at least 20 minutes of an outside activity everyday so that I get fitter. I will know I have achieved it when I am fitter and I am into the routine of doing at least 20 minutes everyday. I will try and achieve this by the end of the term.

Ju's Term 4 Goals

My last goal is to help my mum out at home by doing extra jobs and helping her finish some of her own jobs. I will achieve this by doing any jobs that I can, when I can to help out mum. I will know I have achieved it when mum doesn't have as much to do. I will try and achieve this by the end of the term.

Ju's Persuasive Writing

We should not be spending our days at the mall and talking on cellphones while we are young.

We should be free while we can because when we are older we will have heaps of time to do stuff like that and while we are still young we shouldn’t waste our time. We need to go outside and play and get into a bit of trouble sometimes and we can’t do that when we are older.

A lot of girls are putting on make up and trying to look as good as possible and just to be cool. But we shouldn’t care about doing stuff like that because we will have 30 or 40 years for it when we are older. We only have about 10 years to have fun and most of us have already wasted about 5 of those years.

I have met heaps of adults that regret not having fun while they could’ve and they all tell me to go outside and play and get muddy and wet and do whatever we want while we still have time.

I know heaps of people who look up to the adults and their sisters or brothers and try to be like them but when we get to that age we can do what they were doing and that gives us something to look forward to. Most people don’t know this but the adults and the teenagers are almost looking up to us, because we have barely any responsibilities and we are free to do whatever we want.

Overall I think that some people do act their age but more of us need to, because if we don’t we will regret it and we won’t get another chance.

This is my rubric of this piece of writing:

Ju's Speech Evaluation

My speech was on the difference between the French and the English.
I think it was pretty good because I put lots of effort into it and lots of people liked it. Next time I would try to talk slower because my speech was way to far under the time limit and some people couldn't hear what I was saying. I think that it was okay but I also think that I should've practised more.

My Term 3 goals, family feedback

Guitar practise:
My mum doesn't think I have achieved this goal and that I should try harder.

Hockey practise:
My family think that I haven't achieved this goal but it is hard because my Dad is normally busy at work.

Organisation:
My family think I have achieved this goal because my room has been a lot tidier and I am not losing as many things as I used to.

Answers to questons on team 14 blog.

1. Global warming. (http://www.green.tv/)
2. To tell people what is happening and that we need to take action soon. It was also telling you to make your own video about what you think of global warming.
3. It is telling us what is happening and what they fear might happen if global warming continues.
4. What is the main cause of global warming? How can we help? We could use this information by warning other people.

Speech Feedback Term 3 - The difference between the French and English

2.25 Your introduction grabbed our attention with a rhetorical question. You spoke quite quickly, but it was clear and loud enough to hear. You gave a number of interesting examples, which were shared as stories. You showed you can use OPV by looking at more than one viewpoint when giving examples. You also used French words which made it more interesting.

Next Steps:
Practise the speech with a small group more so that you slow down a lot. Relax and enjoy yourself, you are a talented writer and speaker!

The Emperor is a Fake

I don’t know why you belive that silly emperors story, can’t you tell that he’s a fake, well you aren’t as smart as we are and it did take us a while to figurre it out.

Well this is the true story,
We were walking down the street, just wandering along when up came a man wearing rags, we felt so sorry for him so we said that we would do him a favour. So he asked us to go to the Emperor and make him some amazing clothes because the emperor wouldn’t let a poor ragged man into his amazingly beautiful castle. We agreed to make the emperor some clothes and bring back the money. The poor man gave us the bags of material (which were suprisingly light) and said “The material can only be seen by smart people.

Then off we went to the castle, we told the emperor exactly what the beggar had said, and he told everybody else that if they couldn’t see it they were stupid and would have to be locked up in the dungeon.

We worked and worked even though we couldn’t actually see the material we were working with, but we thought we would be able to see it once we had finished but when the day came we still couldn’t see it and that was very suspicious because we are the smartest people in town.

We gave the emperor some clothes and he said that he could see them and that they were beautiful. He put them on at once. It was a horrific sight we saw for it turned out the emperor didn’t wear underpants! He went out to show off his clothes and some how he already knew that no one could see them and that was our second clue.

Soon the whole town was in the dungeon except for us and the Emperor. We took a long hard look at him and we realised that we had seen him somewhere before, but where?

We lay on our beds thinking for about an hour, then suddenly we both jumped to our feet, that ragged man we had seen weeks before looked exactly like the emperor. We talked and talked all night long untill we finally figured out the whole thing.

The Emperor needed attention and that’s why he became obsessed with fashion, because it was somethig knew and interesting but after a few years it became old and boring so he needed a new plan, a plan that no one would forget, that every single country of the world.

He knew us infact he had been watching our every move and he knew that we would do anything for a poor old beggar. So he dressed up as one and asked us to do what what we did even though there was no material. He just wanted people to think that he was the smartest man in the world.

One day we went for a really long drive to find a police station that had police men that weren’t locked up in the dungeon and we told them the story but we were too late because the emperor wrote a book about it and that book is still around today.

But now hopefully you believe that the Emperor is truly A FAKE.

S.L.C feedback

I enjoyed listening to your stories and poems and seeing where you are at with your maths, we didn't quite have enough time but you can show me some things at home, you spoke very well and were very organised. But if we'd had more time maybe you could have slowed down your speech.
Thank you Ju.

A letter to Gandalf

17 Plynlimon
Fendalton 8052
Christchurch

24th July

Dear Gandalf
My name is Juliette Phillipson, I go to Fendalton school in Christchurch and some of the people in my class are reading “The Hobbit” and we have decided to ask the characters some questions.
How did you become such a fantastic wizard? And if you really are as great as they say, why couldn’t you save Thorin or kill the dragon or just take the treasure with magic?
Now that I’ve finished the book I know why they call you such a great wizard but why didn’t you continue with them through the forest? What if something happened? You were my favourite character in the story although I did quite like the dwarves, which of them was your favourite? Mine was probably Balin because he was really nice to Bilbo. How did you know that Bilbo would be able to help? And why did you chose him out of all the wizards, dwarves, elves and hobbits in middle earth?
If you can, please write back and answer my questions.
Yours faithfully,
Juliette

A strange way to cook.

Hobo Stoves? It sounds strange I know but it was incredibly awesome.

It all started at camp, I was dripping wet from the water games and we were making pancakes outside, on a rusty burnt tin can. I know it sounds a little crazy but it’s not.

To make a hobo stove you need a really big tin can and a small tin can (like a salmon tin) the small tin can should have cardboard and wax in it. You light the cardboard and wax and put the big can on top of the small one. The big can should have a hole cut in the side so that the air can get in. Once the big can has heated up it’s time to make pancakes.

Group A (our group) was the last group to make hobo stoves. Amelia, You Bin and I were sharing a hobo stove and I got to make the first pancake.

First I had to put the oil on and spread it around. Then I poured on the pancake mix, then it was time to flip it but that didn’t go too well, first the pancake stuck to the tin then I flipped it but it wasn’t quite ready. It all joined together into a very abnormal shaped pancake.

Next came Amelia’s turn. Her pancake mucked up a bit because she put and extremely large amount of oil on the hobo stove and it was disgusting. It was mushy and soft and Amelia didn’t want it so she offered it to everyone. The only one who wanted it was Sam N and even he didn’t want it when he found out that it was covered in oil.

After that all of our pancakes were okay, apart from the disgusting one Amelia accidentally dropped on the dirt and gravel (we decided to give that one to the birds). The other strange pancake was my massive pancake that was so big that the mixture dripped over the edge of the hobo stove.

In the end they tasted great. The hobo stoves activity was one of my major highlights at camp.

Term 3 goals, hockey practise.

My last goal is to practise hockey every week with my dad. I will achieve this by asking him to help me every time I have finished. I will know I have achieved it when my team is winning more! I will try and and achieve this by the end of the year.

I don't think that I achieved this goal because I only practised with my dad twice because he is always at work. Next time I would keep practising even if my dad wasn't there.

Term 3 goals, guitar practise.

My second goal is to practise guitar for 10 minutes every day. I will achieve this by setting an alarm for five thirty every day. I will know I have achieved it when I am a lot better at guitar. I will be good at playing three songs (“The Flintstones”, “Chasing Cars” and "The Simpson's"). I will try and and achieve this goal by the end of this term.

I think I partly achieved this goal because I learnt the songs I was meant to but I didn't practise everyday. Next time I would put a reminder in my bedroom so that I remember.

My term 3 Goals, organisation

My first goal is to get more organised. I will achieve this by keeping my room and desk tidy, writing neatly and handing in my homework. I will know I have achieved it when it is easier to find things and my mum doesn’t tell me off for my room being messy. I will try and achieve this goal by the end of the year.

I think I achieved this goal because I have been able to find things in my desk easier, my bedroom is really tidy (even my mum says so) but I have only handed in my homework some of the time.
I have changed my mind about writing neatly because I don't think it really matters as long as its readable.

Next time I would hand in my homework more often and check that my room and my desk were tidy before I go.
